Colorado Backcountry: Buffalo Pass - 12.02.2007

It was deep up at Buff Pass this weekend. Hit a tree on the Dragon, minor front end damage.. Took out the bumper, hood hinge and RH body panel and rivets.

Jordan and I got back north pretty far and almost had to hold up in a snow cave for the night. We had one last chance to rip out of this area as the sun was setting.. the 3 previous attempts to get out resulted in one or both of us getting stuck. We made it back to truck in the dark using the GPS after finding Buff Pass road.

Best day on snow ever, best boondocking and endless untracked powder.

Colorado Backcountry: Northern Colorado - 11.30.2007

Today was sick, almost Charlie Murphy level. Alex and I took the sleds way up north and checked out a new stash. Things weren't looking too good on the way up, very little snow above treeline.. hopefully this storm cycle will have lower winds and lots more pow. We were pretty surprised to find a foot or more of powder on the roads down around 9500k.. covered most of the rocks but still tons of land mines out there. We played in the trees, I beached the Dragon into a huge sugar filled snow drift and got buried up to the bars. Took about 30 minutes of digging while Alex schralped all the remaining pow in sight. Looks like game on for winter, let it snow. See you in the backcountry.

Colorado Backcountry: Northern Colorado - 11.24.2007

We went sledding at a new spot. It was looking pretty bleak.. after a couple of access issues we made it up above 11k. Snow was surprisingly good and deep in spots, we found an area or two with 4ft or more already. The pics:

The hard way.. a frozen creek:

Sleds 10k or so:

We made a few pow turns:

Colorado Backcountry: No Snow, Life Still OK? - 11.08.2007

Zen Waiter & Krazy Canadian of Thunderstuck

It's been a really slow start to the Colorado early season. If you could even call it a start. We've got the gear ready, new zones loaded in the GPS but no snow! Think snow, pray for snow, do a little snow dance! In the meantime, we've been out meeting new friends and trying to stay sane. For a good laugh, go listen to JP getting interview by the famous ZenWaiter. Zen lives snowmobiles 24x7 and has a sweet website and radio show / podcast that he updates at least weekly. Weknowsnow is proud to be a new sponsor of the ZenWaiter crew, go take some time to visit Jerry's site and listen in on his kick ass snowmobiling show. Be a sponsor or supporter of a good thing!

"JP the snowboard freak turned mountain sled fanatic from Colorado chats with Zen, and invites all inquiries about riding the Peaks of Colorado. Music by Bob Dylan & more. 27 minutes. For info on details about riding in the mountains of Colorado- feel free to write to JP: jp@weknowsnow.com For reading on mountain info- see JP's Blog"

Colorado Backcountry: KT Nails 1st Cornice Drop of The Year - 10.26.2007

October is lacking hardcore on snow, but Kaleb still stomps the first couple cornice drops of the season! The m1000 is dialed and killing it..

Colorado Backcountry: New Season, New Weapon - 10.22.2007

A new season is almost here, time for a change and a late birthday present to myself. No more MTN Lite for me, picked up a 08 Poo Dragon 700 155 last weekend from the boys at Colorado Power Sports. Alex picked up a new Apex MTN 162 with rider forward setup and lefty for the steep and deep climbs.... should work out well. STE is getting the Bearcat Widetrack dialed up in Steamboat so all we need now are a couple of good storm cycles. This season is starting off pretty slow, it was nice too get out last Thursday and do some snowboarding, ended up taking the MTN Lite out on Friday with Kaleb.. So at least we've got a couple of days on snow.

Colorado Power Sports has a bunch of sweet deals on sleds at the moment, a couple of nice Dragon's and RMK's left. All the new Nytro's are out on the floor and I've heard of a couple reports that the MTX is the best 4 stroke yet. If your looking for a good deal on a machine stop by and talk to Greg... they also have some hold overs and good deals on last years demos sleds. If you go, check out the Boondockers turbo Apex putting out 200 horse.. red white and blue.

As far as the CFR goes it looks like it couldn't be easier to install on the new Dragon. Polaris is using a new tunnel design and the rack system uses T-bolts to slide into the tunnel and lock from the top. Should have it all installed by this weekend.

For 2008 Dave at CFR has some new products and improved rack designs, currently the online store is down while the new package deals are worked out and new pricing. Take a look below for the new 08 brochure:
