Colorado Backcountry: Fly Fishing Delaney & Wyoming - 09.15.2007

Got out fly fishing with the boys, we camped at Delaney Buttes for an extended weekend. Made our way up to some private water on the Little Snake River in Wyoming on Saturday. Fishing was good, weather was worse. Lots of wind! It was nice to catch fish over 20". Mike scored a huge 4 or 5 pounder out of the south lake.

Met up with Alex near the headwaters of the Big Thompson in Rocky Mountain National Park. Fishing was slow, caught a couple of browns on the dry and mostly small brookies. Alex had the most fish. Check this picture of the new snow on Longs Peak and the high alpine!!! Some images:

Colorado Backcountry: Fly Fishing Brainard Lakes - IPW - 08.19.2007

AKD and I went up for a quick half day to fish some area around Brainard Lakes in Indian Peaks Wilderness. AKD has two days on the river and has already out fished me both days! He scored 4 or 5 nice brookies on the day and lost zero flies. I had a brookie or two, and a really nice cutty and lost a fly or two. Fished with my dad's 9ft 5 weight, which was difficult in the small alpine stream setting.

Colorado Backcountry: Fly Fishing Rocky Mountain National Park - 08.11.2007

Way north today in the park. Logged another 12 miles, got some nice fish. Man was it a beautiful day, the bluebird sky was my motivation to press on. Blistered feet from hiking miles and miles in my Keens. I love the rockies.
