Sweetgrass Productions
Over the past several years the ski/snowboard film industry has become over saturated with lots of companies putting out a film or two each Fall. With the growing popularity of ski film production we’ve seen the industry branch out beyond the typical “in your face XXX-ski porn, park rat, heli drops, exotic locales, mega cliff hucks, etc.” of the early years. Now we are seeing more emphasis placed on human powered skiing, backcountry skiing, ski mountaineering, and films with more story line and insight into the world of skiing.
Hand Cut Trailer:

Sweetgrass Productions LLC is a Colorado-based film company rooted in the winter backcountry and mountain lifestyle. These guys are all about the ‘earn your turns’ philosophy and have put together a pretty nice trailer for their upcoming film Hand Cut, due out in September. From deep powder to deep-inset couloirs, these guys have it all in their film. I really like how they have put an emphasis on backcountry skiing and filming as an art and not just a sport.
The British Columbia Teaser blends the hand-fired days of the Canadian Pacific steam trains with blower skiing on Rogers Pass and Revelstoke. From these early railroad days to the miners of Colorado’s San Juan mountains, Hand Cut will convey the rugged, calloused-hand history of North American mountains.
Hand cut focuses on the purity of backcountry travel, blending self-propelled skiing with the rugged western history. DVD release september 2008, and check out
