Powtober!

What a week! Winter has finally arrived here in Colorado.  We went from virtually no snow to powder heaven within a matter of days.  A few pacific storms rolled through the state dumping anywhere between 10″ to 20″ of fresh snow. The third storm is just winding down as I sit here typing. The big winner out of this one was the Steamboat zone and far northern mountains where a hefty 19″ of light and dry powder fell. Reports from further south came in the 8″-14″ range.

Here’s a sampling of what Miriam and I found up on Loveland Pass the other morning on a quick outing before work. There is a base forming, but still lots of logs and rocks poking through. The upper trees were great as we didn’t hit much of anything, but as we got down lower it was very tricky as logs, rocks, and other obstacles were lurking.  A few more storms and we should be in pretty good shape.  The winds have been brutal as of late, so many areas are getting stripped clean of the recent snow.  If you know where to look you will find some nice pockets of deep wind loaded goodness.  Of course ski any wind effected slope with extra caution.
