Back to the Roots

Haven't been up to where it all started in NOCO all year.  Took my buddy Spencer out for his first ride in two years.  He did well.  Beautiful day out with 12-18" of fresh pow.  Snapped a pic of Paradise Bowl where the avalanche happened last weekend taking the life of a skier.  To think how we used to climb and sidehill  that face.  Were just rolling the dice back then.  Much wiser now and will never hit that face again.  Trees are more fun anyway.  Landed on a rock off a jump with the Polaris and damaged the chassis right at the jackshaft and speedo sensor.  Should have it fixed up in no time though.  Did some back to back climbs with both my sleds and my M8 absolutely destroys the pro rmk up the hill.  Didn't even get 1/2 way to the second lake with the pro, and the M8 walked right up.  Granted the M8 has a longer 162 track with the powerclaw 2.6 and Kmod, but the proof of how much more powerful the Cat is was laid out on the hill.  Very impressed that the M's are still a force in the backcountry. Both sleds pulled 8000-8100rpms all day.

Snowies 2-22-13

Had a great weekend at my cabin.  Untracked powder was hard to find this weekend in the snowies on Friday and Saturday, but we found it.  Got 50 miles on the new Polaris motor, and the M8 ran great with a new steering post and primary clutch.  Jason's M1000 has developed a small crack in the Y pipe, so a new one is on order.  Still ran well.

Rough day in NOCO

Perfect bluebird day Saturday the 16th, plenty of fresh powder.  Get up to our area and started hitting the good stuff.  45 min later, SNAP!  Broken steering post on the M8.  Had to boondock out of the backcountry without being towed.  Trying to boondock without any steering has got to be one of the hardest things I've ever done on a sled...probably worse than riding out on one ski!!!
Here's a pic of Jason Barcus getting in a pow turn before our ride out.  Took over 3 hrs to get my sled back to the truck, 15 miles.

Deepest weekend of the year in SW WY

Amazing weekend.  Was blizzard and 5ft of blower on Fri.  Sunny and warm on Saturday.  Got stuck a few times.  Feels good to say that again.  Arctic Cats ruled all weekend long while my 2012 Polaris Pro blew a motor 3 miles from the truck on the second day.  Under 700 miles!!!  Typical Polaris crap motors.  Had an 09 Dragon, been there done that.  Should have known better...

Beautiful day in the Northern CO backcountry

Since there is low snow we decided to bring the boards and take a lap.  Yes, we still snowboard!

Snowmobiled the craziest one track trail JP and I have ever been on.  One little mistake and game over.  Won't be taking that one again.  Hopefully the other group of guys following our tracks all day didn't go that way or they would have been in for a hurting.

Snow is sugar right now and with the warm there will be an inch or two of crust on top.  Similar to what the snow was like in Jan last year.  We need snow bad.  If we get new snow the avy danger WILL be high.

Bitter Cold Weekend at the Snowies, but deep was found

Yeah about 0 as a high both days.  Friday was stormy, cold, and flat light.  Saturday before that downer of a football game was sunny but still cold.  Tried a new route in with success that's much closer to my cabin.  Only downfall is the crater snow formations we had to ride on in the open plains down low.  Snowed around 14" in some areas Friday into Friday night so at least they got something out of this last storm.  Still lots of tip toe riding.  Need more snow ASAP!!!  Only damage this trip was a flat on the trailer... which is about an every other trip occurance when we drive on those rocky backcountry WY roads.
