Colorado Backcountry: Fly Fishing Rocky Mountain National Park - 07.13.2007

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Alex and I went up to do some recon in the park today and ended up hitting major pay dirt. 5 or 6 miles back we stopped at a calm alpine lake near treeline. Dry flied the mozzie all day, caught 3 or 4 really nice cuttthroats and a couple of nice brookies. After slaying the lake we made our way down to the outlet for some more action. Shots of some of the fish I got today. Alex caught a couple of nice size cutts and a brookie or two. 10 or 11 miles total on the day, Alex missed the turn off on the trail and put in an extra 3 or so! Beautiful day and amazing mostly Colorado native fish. Some pictures:

Edit: For all you fucking haters out there, we fish for fun - catch and release. Oh yea, the cabin is on private property. Step AWAY from your computer. Also, try not to steal our photos like this jackass from canada: http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa47/removed/ .. if you do.. at least get the trout type right. Thanks

Colorado Backcountry: BC Hilton - Part 1 - 07.08.2007

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Met up with K and Abby to put some work in on the backcountry hilton. We rolled into Tabernash around 3pm or so and got a fair amount of work done. The siding is tongue and groove, we used 2×8 for the ceiling supports with metal channel crossing between. Tongue and groove for the roof as well. 3 french pane windows, antique front door, disco ball, hopefully a sky light and lots for other good stuff. Let it snow!

Colorado Backcountry: Fly Fishing Colorado River Headwaters - 07.08.2007

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

Alex and I went up to fish the Colorado River headwaters. Nymphed a couple of flashback beadheads most of the day and ended up getting 6. Mostly browns (couple really small ones), a nice brookie, and a pretty good lunker brown. Alex had 6 on the day as well, 2 nice size ones. At one point today we both had fish on at the same time, you could tell by the hooting and hollering from up and down stream. Alex was dry flying a mozzy and it was working well as we saw fish hitting bugs on the surface all day. Snagged the bigger brown from under an overhanging bank on a really nice bend in the river. Storms rolled in around 2pm so we hit the road. I will post up Alex’s photos when I get them.

Colorado Backcountry: Fly Fishing East Inlet - 06.29.2007

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Got up the last couple of days and did some fly fishing with Alex in Rocky Mountain National Park. We hiked back above Lone Pine Lake in the East Inlet basin, hitting the meadows and streams along the way. Between us we caught 17-18 fish, mostly small Brookies.. They were pretty much hitting anything we tossed into the water.

Got out yesterday on the east side of Rollins Pass with the snowboard. iskibc and I did a quick loop from Yankee Doodle lake to Forest Lakes cirque, dropped in…. did another quick lap off the chutes on Radiobeacon and hiked out back to the truck.
